CollaMedix Inc. was incorporated on June 12, 2018 to commercialize novel collagen-based electrocompaction technology developed at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU). The company has exclusively licensed the issued patents invented by Ozan Akkus, PhD., Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at CWRU, and the Chief Scientific Officer (CSO). CollaMedix was founded by two successful medical device entrepreneurs, Donna Richardson, CEO and Subba Shankar, PhD, CTO with more than 60 years’ combined experience in multiple start-up companies. Drs. Akkus and Hijaz collaborated on the development of the technology and product concept for the world’s first pure collagen electrocompacted sling for female pelvic health in 2017.

The Company’s mission is to improve patient outcomes by delivering safe, effective, and innovative biomaterial solutions to clinicians, providers, and industry partners. CollaMedix is developing breakthrough collagen-based medical devices and related biomaterials manufacturing technologies. These novel electrocompacted collagen products provide a unique bioinductive clinical response which significantly enhances the treatment of soft tissue repair and augmentation.

Grant Funding

CollaMedix has competed for and been awarded $3.4M in grant funding from the National Science Foundation, National Institutes of Health, and other local government entities.
